The original manager's quarters: the largest suite in the house, with its own sitting room and a daybed by the fire.
This was the estate manager's own room for most of a century, and it is still the grandest in the house: a bedroom and a separate sitting room opening onto the front lawn, with the Rungeet valley falling away beyond the hedge. A four-poster faces the fireplace, and a daybed in the bay takes a third guest or a long afternoon with a book. The sitting room keeps the manager's bureau, a gramophone that still works and a shelf of planters' memoirs and Himalayan travel writing that guests are welcome to borrow. The bathroom is the house's largest, with a clawfoot bath, a rain shower, brass fittings polished every morning and a window onto the camellia hedge.
